Nominee: Peter Katana
Nominated by: Sue Brown
RESTAURANT MANAGER at the Merton Hotel has been nominated for Customer Service Employee of the Year.
Peter Katana is restaurant managed at the St Saviour hotel, and Sue Brown, who nominated him, said he is ‘the consummate professional.’
Ms Brown is from Birmingham, and stays at the Merton every time she and her family visit the Island, and said that Mr Katana, ‘a shining star,’ is ‘a major contributing factor to the joy of staying with the Merton.’ She said that they’ll go to the Merton because ‘we know we’ll get an incredible dining experience.’
Ms Brown said: ‘Running such a large dining room must be a logistical nightmare but he always remains calm and pleasant and goes out of his way to ensure guests are happy. He works tirelessly with a huge smile which never falters.’
She added that Mr Katana runs the huge dining room ‘like a well-oiled machine.’
At restaurants, anything can go wrong, but Mr Katana is ‘amazing under pressure. His manners are impeccable. A true gentleman who is a fabulous ambassador for Jersey!’
On Ms Brown and her families last visit to the Merton their daughter-in-law had recently finished chemo and ‘his kindness and compassion towards her was heart-warming.’ Because of the treatment she had lost her hair, and felt self-conscious, and Mr Katana was ‘so accommodating,’ giving the family a quiet table away from prying eyes so she could feel comfortable.
Ms Brown called Mr Katana, ‘jolly, friendly, and open,’ managing to stay calm and helpful no matter the workload. She added that he is ‘a true champion who takes an immense pride in his job.’
