Community Champion(s) of the Year
Royal Bank of Canada
THIS award seeks to recognise any individual or group who gives something back to the community.
It could be a parish official who is always there when needed, a member of a local youth or play group, someone who dedicates their services to a local church, or simply a local resident going that extra mile for their parish. Jersey is one big community, and that is only made possible by the generous actions of these remarkable people – the very people who help to make our Island such a special place in which to live.
Adelina d’Orleans won the Community Champion of the Year Award for her work with the Jersey Youth Service’s Youth Inclusion Project over the past 14 years. Ms d’Orleans is lead youth worker for the project, which provides support and social opportunities for 11-to-25-year-olds with special needs and disabilities. Mark Capern, principal youth officer with the Jersey Youth Service, nominated Ms d’Orleans, saying that the ‘success of this project is down to Adelina’s passion, drive, energy and motivation’. The project serves 138 young people and offers a summer programme with opportunities for them to meet, take part in activities and have fun.
